The Context of Shakespearean Drama

In Shakespeare's time (1564-1616), at the age of 25, William Shakespeare both wrote and performed his first plays in 1590 and 1591. He displayed Early Modern English in his scripts and performances, and continued to implement Early Modern English into Romeo and Juliet. William Shakespeare was known for displaying "The Renaissance" into theatre to portray his beliefs. His plays were performed in multiple different areas such as theatres, playhouses, outdoor venues and to Queen Elizabeth I at the royal palace. The plays were always performed in broad daylight or normal indoor lighting, and the audience were known for being either wealthy or poor working people. For those with less money would stand in the pit and were known as "groundlings". If the play wasn't up to their standard or expectation, they'd heckle and throw rotten fruit. But for people more wealthier, they had the option to buy cushions or pay for better seating. They could either buy tiered seating or seating allocated on the stage itself.

Not only did William Shakespeare perform to Queen Elizabeth I, but majority of his earlier plays, especially the "historical plays", were written about the ancestors of Queen Elizabeth I in great light, but never about Elizabeth specifically. Every play he wrote was known for having five acts and several scenes. He never divided his work into acts and scenes deliberately, it's like he'd done it without thinking. After displaying the Renaissance into his work to portray his personal beliefs, people came up with new ideas and started to question these beliefs. Such as questioning the logic of settling every dispute with a sword in Romeo and Juliet because of the senseless cycle of violence, or questioning if their thoughts were predetermined by God or not. It was known for being a time of change.

NPDL W9

This term (term 4) all the year 10s are working on a project. My group consists of Me, Jeana, Jordan, Eauncee, Summer and Winter. We are focusing on electricity and how we can change it for both our community and school.

We have based ours on both radiators and heat pumps and our main question for our project is "How sustainable are heat pumps for our college instead of radiators?"

What have you achieved/learned since your last post?

We all worked as a group and managed to complete our final science board and have it displayed for final presentation yesterday (Wednesday 6th of December)

How effectively have you used your time - in class?

I think both me and my group have contributed and have completed the same amount of work.

How have you contributed to your groups progress?

I have been helping out my group and filling out the weekly group planner.

Something going well in our group?

Working collaboratively together and getting the work completed within the week we are given. We have been working more faster this week as we have to have it completed in a shorter time frame.

Something not working well?

Only thing that isn't working well is that not everybody is present all in one day. So the work they need to do individually isn't always complete. (and we are also now missing a member of our group)

This is our last week of NPDL. We have all had a good time and worked well together collaboratively. It took us about 3-4 weeks to make and finish this project and we are all happy with the outcome. It was a good experience.

I have been able to interview both Collin and Ian with the rest of my group. Alongside with that, we have also started putting a slideshow together about radiators.

How effectively have you used your time - in class?

I think the time was used very effectively.

How have you contributed to your groups progress?

I have been putting quotes down from Brent into a document to use for our actual project.

How effectively have you used your time this week?

I think both me and my group have achieved very much this week as we all stayed focused.

How have you contributed to your groups progress?

I have come up with multiple questions to ask Ian, Collin and Brent. With the answers they came back to the questions, I wrote them down.

Something that is working well in our group?

We are all participating and taking a even share.

Where could you help with this?

Listening to eachothers advice.

What are the next steps for our project?

Since we have already finished interviewing everyone we can start planning the project on cardboard.
